On the Street: 9 Size-Inclusive Ways to Wear (and Look Cool in) Neon Clothes

OK, y’all, neon is huge AF right now, and I’m kind of loving it. The bright colors make a serious summer punch and put all the attention on me—right where it should be. Of course, I’m human, and sometimes I need a little inspiration on how to wear neon clothes in a way that doesn’t make it look like I’m trying to get everyone and their mother to notice how cool and on-trend I am. I want to look ~effortless~ and street style chic.

So, I turned to the experts: plus-size fashionistas. These influencers know how to look cool in everything, so I knew they’d be killing the plus-size neon clothes game. And, no surprise, I was right. These plus-size babes have got some serious neon inspo for us all, and I, for one, am ready to copy all of their looks. (Luckily for all of us, they’re not too difficult to recreate.)

Without further ado, I present to you: nine street style, size-inclusive and influencer-approved ways to wear neon.

1. Neon Animal Print

Talk about the perfect melding of trends, baby. Both neon and animal print are huge right now, so combining them will basically make you sartorial royalty. Jazzmyne Robbins (@jazzmyne) is rocking the trend in an oversized neon animal print shirt, which is honestly so perfect for warm weather. You can also try neon animal print pants or a dress—whatever your heart desires. Just add a pair of tiny sunnies (I have mixed feelings about this trend, but it is what it is.) and dad sneakers, and you’re on your way to being the coolest person on the freakin’ streets.

2. The Utility Trend

Hello, utility silhouettes. Neon and utility clothes are yet another match made in trend heaven right now, so it’s time to get! on! it! Pairing structured neon utility with something fun and feminine is a perfect way to play with contrast this summer. And while the Eloquii jumpsuit that Anabeth (@anabeth.jpg) is wearing is already sold out (You can get on the waitlist, though!), there are so many other neon utility pieces to play with this season.

3. Bikini Babe

Do I need a reason to rock a neon bikini? No, but it makes it even better knowing that neon is so in right now. And Lydia Okello (@styleisstyle) posing in this neon pink stunner is honestly all the inspiration I need to go out and buy a million neon bikinis right now.

4. Cropped & Casual

I could honestly write an ode to crop tops, and Lottie L’amour’s (@lottielamour) cool and casual neon ~lewk~ might just be the inspiration for it. I mean, this is the kind of outfit you can wear all the time, stay comfy and still look on-trend. Catch me wearing a version of this ensemble 24/7 this summer.

Put on a neon frock, grab your cutest purse and you’re ready to hit the town.

7. The Trailblazer

Alex Sundstrom (@chubbystruggles) just proved that you can wear neon at work, so no excuses on not trying this trend. A neon blazer is the perfect opportunity to test out this bright trend. Even if you don’t want to wear it to the office, you could totally pair a neon blazer with your favorite graphic tee. The possibilities are endless.

Let your shoulders see the sun! Off-the-shoulder dresses are always so cute, so just add a little neon, and you’re doing the street style trend thaaaang. Shine bright like Jay Miranda (@pinklip) in a neon dress that’s perfect for gallivanting around town, date night or photoshoots in front of colorful walls.

Pair them with an off-the-shoulder top like Ariana Peña-Cárdenas (@arianapenacardenas), your favorite tee or a structured blouse. The only way to mess this up would be to not try it.
