There’s something so appealing—almost soothing?—about cute, crinkly swimsuits. The fabric is both smocked and ribbed, creating a seriously adorable, stretchy, and comfortable poolside must-have. Not all swimwear is created equal, but plus-size crinkle swimsuits manage to stay at the top of the list every single time. Perhaps it’s the flattering material that looks good on everyone (Not even kidding, folks.) or the fact that these one-pieces and bikinis remind me of snuggling up in terry cloth towels. Frankly, who cares? Crinkle swimsuits are cute—and that’s good enough for me.
The crinkle swimsuit trend is, ultimately, a microcosm. It’s a baby trend, if you will. It pops up here and there, but it’s never quite made it to the forefront of swimwear trends, lauded by influencers and fashionistas alike. This doesn’t mean, though, that crinkle swimwear isn’t worth adding to your spring and summer (or even winter vacation) line-up. In fact, it’s just the opposite.
It’s rare that plus-size folks get to spearhead a trend—much less a swimsuit trend. Too often, this space is reserved for think influencers or models. But because crinkle swimsuits haven’t quite become as popular as they definitely could, this gives people who wear plus sizes a chance to start a crinkle swimwear movement. (!)
So go forth and stock up on all the plus-size crinkle swimsuits you can. After all, wouldn’t it be wonderful to see actual body diversity taking over a swimwear trend? A girl can dream, at least.
